PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT AND RECOVERY FAQ

The physiotherapist will perform a comprehensive history taking and assessment. We aim to get a clear picture of your problem and your goals. We will explain the possible diagnosis and plan of treatment. Treatment of the affected area as well as any other associated areas of concern will be provided, accompanied by rehabilitation exercises to complement your treatment as treatment progresses. The physiotherapist will then advise you on booking your follow-up appointment and what the plan is for the second session. You will be provided with information and self-help tips in the meantime until your next session.

Physiotherapy treatment may occasionally cause some discomfort or pain. While it is never our intention to hurt you, effective treatment sometimes requires working through sensitive or tight areas. It is normal to experience mild soreness, bruising or discomfort for 1–2 days following your session. Your physiotherapist will explain this process and advise you on what to expect.

We aim to have you functional and pain free in 3 to 5 sessions. The physiotherapist will plan the treatment accordingly with regards to the diagnosis, prognosis and your goals. You will also be equipped with an exercise program and self-help tips as seen fit by the physiotherapist to support your recovery.

We mainly focus on hands-on treatment:

  • Myofascial release
  • Fascial activation techniques
  • Massage
  • Neural mobilisations
  • Deep dry needling
  • Spinal mobilisations
  • Joint mobilisations
  • Stretching
  • Rehabilitation
  • Strapping and taping
  • Chest and sinus treatment techniques
  • Muscle activation techniques
  • Heat/Ice
  • Ultrasound
  • Redlight therapy
  • Electrical stimulation therapy
  • Pain education
  • Postural training

You can continue with the guidance and advice from the physiotherapist who will take your injury, phase of healing and rehabilitation into consideration. The physiotherapist will recommend what protocol to follow and advise of any “do’s and don’ts”. There is however a likelihood that you will have to rest from physical activity or exercise for the first few days.

You will be provided with appropriate exercises or a rehabilitation program either after the first session or later in your treatment sessions depending on your injury and stage of healing. This is to aid in your healing process and rehabilitation journey. We will also do some of these exercises with you during your sessions as part of treatment. You will also be equipped with self-help tips as seen fit by the physiotherapist to support your recovery.

Recovery time varies with the type and severity of your injury, as well as how it has been managed since it occurred. Generally, most acute injuries heal within 2–6 weeks, while more chronic or long-standing issues may take several months to a year for full recovery. Your consistency with physiotherapy treatment and rehab plays the biggest role in how quickly you recover.

It’s important to keep moving — just modify what you’re doing instead of stopping completely. Movement helps with healing. If it’s an acute injury, focus on managing your pain and inflammation appropriately. For something more chronic or pain from overuse, the key is to follow your rehab plan consistently so we can rebuild strength and function gradually. Also make sure you’re getting enough rest, eating well and keeping your physio updated on how you’re feeling — that way, we can adjust your treatment as you recover.

Yes, that’s exactly what we aim to do. Once your pain settles, we’ll focus on finding out why the injury happened in the first place — things like muscle imbalances, posture or training errors. Then we’ll work on strengthening, mobility and movement control to help prevent it from coming back. Your physio will guide you with the right exercises and habits so you can stay strong and keep doing the things you enjoy safely.

Yes, absolutely. At Just Physio, we aim to empower you to stay pain-free and moving well, long after your recovery. Many of our patients choose to come in every few weeks or once a month — it really depends on your activity level and personal goals.  You and your physio will decide together what works best for you.
